Why this recipe works

The Adventure-Q gives you proper heat and control, so you can achieve a real sear wherever you are. No need for multiple pans for steaming and searing, just one system that does the job well.

Perfect for:

  • Camping trips
  • Beach BBQ setups
  • Caravan weekends
  • Easy outdoor dinners at home

Time

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cook time: Approximately 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 x 350g Stotch fillet steak
  • 2 x Carrots cut in chunks
  • 1 x Zucchini whole (you will not be sorry, this really keeps in the flavour. Slice for serving)
  • 3 x Small Potatoes cut in chunks, leave skin on or peel
  • 6 - 10 mushrooms
  • Frozen beans
  • Frozen Cauliflower bake (Aldi)
  • 2 Tablespoon Gravy Mix
  • 1 teaspoon Hoisin sauce
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Butter
  • Milk

Taste test notes

The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, resulting in exceptional tenderness. Placing the fat cap against the side enhanced the overall experience. The vegetables, being close to the water base and having a larger surface area, steamed efficiently and quickly. Zucchini was exceptionally creamy and tender. The dome lid kept the vegetables warm & the glass lid was great in protecting the meat outside.

Method

Place approximately 500ml of water into the base of the Daymo. Position the steamer tray atop the base, arranging vegetables in a single layer whenever feasible. The heatproof dish containing cauliflower bake should also be placed on the steam tray.

Place the Daymo Dome lid and ensure the vent is closed. Turn the gas to a high setting. When the water is steaming, open the vent to a halfway position & lower heat slightly. Allow the contents to cook for approximately 10 to 12 minutes, adjusting the duration based on the size of the vegetables.

Carefully remove the steamer insert containing the vegetables and transfer them to a plate or tray. Place the dome lid over them, with the vent closed, to maintain their warmth.

At this time the majority of the water will have evaporated. Once the base is adequately heated, place the steaks and cook them to your preferred level of doneness, turning them once or twice. Should a steak possess a fat cap, position this against the side of the unit to help caramelisation.

Remove the steak to allow for resting. As before, a plate covered with the glass Daymo lid was used to preserve warmth.

While the base retains its heat, add sliced mushrooms and sauté for 2 minutes. Following this, add the gravy hoisin mixture &  water. Allow this to simmer while the steak and vegetables are being served.

Finally, pour the mushroom sauce over the steak.

Enjoy!

Anything the chef would change for next time?

I would add the beans 5 mins into the steaming time, as they were a little overcooked.
